What is Microblading?

  • Microblading is also known as 3d brows, feather stroking, eyebrow embroidery/tattooing and many others).

  • It is a technique that creates natural, custom eyebrows with the use of a handheld Microblade.

  • Microblading is the art and science of implanting pigment through the epidermal layer of the skin into the upper dermal layer of the skin.

  • A Microblade artist hand draws each hair stroke individually, carefully blending it with the client’s existing eyebrow hair. This technique provides natural and lifelike results.

  • Microblading works on all skin tones and colors.

What can I expect from a consultation?

  • Two types of consultations:

  1. Over the phone   2.)  In person at out studio with Microblading Artist

  • The majority of consultations are done over the phone. We will ask you to send us a photo of your brows so that we can analyze your brows. This is a scheduled appointment prior to your Microblading session.

  • When there are certain circumstances or concerns we can schedule a consultation appointment in advance where you will come in and meet with our professional Microblading Artist. This would be appropriate when there is a need of a skin patch test.

  • During your initial consultation you will learn of your brow issues and share your own personal brow issues and desires.

  • We will go through Microblading in more detail and you will have the chance to get answers to questions that may not be covered on this FAQs section.

Who can benefit from Microblading?

Semi-permanent makeup can help many different people on many different levels.

It can simply give you a few extra minutes in the morning (for some of you…many extra minutes in the morning). For others, Microblading makes a real difference and changes lives. Or it is a luxury and a matter of convenience. Whatever your reason for choosing Microblading, Bella Cosi Studios will work to make sure it is one of the best decisions you ever made for yourself.

Microblading is beneficial for everyone and anyone who can identify with one or any one of the following:

  • Have loss or thinning of hair.

  • Experience allergies to topical makeup or skin sensitivities.

  • People who wear contact lenses.

  • Poor vision or can’t see well enough to apply your makeup anymore.

  • People with an unsteady hand or poor motor skills due to Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, or stroke survivors.

  • People with shoulder issues where they cannot raise their arm or it is too painful to do so.

  • People with busy lifestyles and hectic work schedules who want to look their best all day long without having to stop, check, and reapply their makeup due to smudging or smearing. Especially those of you whom, after a busy day, want to look great for your evening without having to do a thing.

  • People who enjoy activities like working out at the gym, yoga, swimming, boating, hiking, biking, tennis, camping, etc., and are concerned with their eyebrows or makeup coming off.  Some individuals avoid such activities such because of that concern.

  • Through permanent makeup, you get the personal freedom to go enjoy your favorite activities and look great doing them.

  • People who have albinism.

What is the minimum age?

You must be 18 years of age or older, or have signed parent approval.

Is eyebrow Microblading for men as well?

  • Fill in thinning brows or ones that have simply disappeared. A different pattern of strokes is used to make it appear more masculine.

Does it hurt?

With the use of topical anesthetics, most clients report little to no pain. In fact, many clients are so relaxed that they fall asleep during the procedure.

How long does it take?

Microblading eyebrows will generally take about 2-3 hours to complete. Keep in mind this includes approximately twenty to thirty minutes to fully anesthetize the area for you comfort.

The treatment is split into 2 appointments which are 4-6 weeks apart in order to allow the healing process to complete.

The initial application appointment consists of several stages:

  1. Completing consent forms and going over any questions you may have

  2. Brow design consultation

  3. ‘Before’ photos taken

  4. Measuring

  5. Drawing

  6. Color determination

  7. Numbing

  8. Actual Microblading

  9. ‘After’ photos taken

  10. Explaining after care instructions, take home after care package

Your second perfection/touch up appointment takes around 90 minutes. This is when the thickness can be added to your eyebrows and the color darkened if required.

  1. Results are reviewed

  2. Touch up where needed (This is when the thickness can be added to your eyebrow’s and the color darkened if required.)

  3. Occasionally a third session is required. This generally applies to full reconstructed brows.

How long does it take to heal?

The entire healing process will take from 4-6 weeks depending on your body’s regeneration ability, and your age.

How long does it last?

  • As a general rule, microbladed eyebrows can last from 2 to 3 years. This varies from person to person as everybody’s skin is different and retention of pigment therefore varies.

  •  To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch up is suggested every 12-18 months. This keeps the brows looking full and refreshes any faded pigment. If you choose not to do this then the microbladed area will just fade over time.

  • Permanent makeup will last longer for some than it does for others. This can be due to, most importantly, lifestyle, health, and skin type.

  • Follow our Long-Term Care instructions for best results.

Is it safe?

Yes! Bella Cosi Studios follows strict sanitation and sterilization guidelines.  We use the best and latest pigments and our tools are disposable for your safety.

How much does it cost?

There are different price options per procedure, depending on the level of Microblading needed. Please visit our pricing page for the list of corresponding cost.

What is a touch up and when will I need one?

Microblading is a 2 session process and will require a follow-up/ touch-up appointment. The touch-up appointment is a fine-tuning session to make any adjustments that may be needed or desired to the shape, fullness, and color.

Is there a fee for a touch up?

  • There are different touch-up procedures and costs may vary.

  • Please visit our pricing page for the full list of prices.

How is a color chosen?

  • First we will ask you to bring your pencil or makeup you use at home for your brows to your appointment.

  • We then consult with you on what you would like and then examine and determine your skin tone and undertones.

  • Then we will work to match a brow color suited to you.

  •  We will always show you the color first to make sure you approve.

  • Nothing is ever done without your consent!

Microblading is not recommended for:

  • Women who are pregnant, nursing, or trying to get pregnant.

  • Women must wait 6 months after delivery & 6 months after nursing (no exceptions).

  • People with a heart conditions/pace maker/defibrillator (no exceptions).

  • Diabetics.

  • Hemophilia-Bleeding Disorder.

  • Trichotillomania (Compulsive pulling of body hair, due to constant pulling, scar tissue is prominent and pigment will not heal properly)

  • Shingles – If you have EVER had shingles on your face, procedure could cause a flare up.

  • Psoriasis or Dermatitis in or around the brow area.

  • (Constant flaking/itching/irritation/shedding of skin).

Other Things to Consider

Skin Issues

  • Moles/raised areas in or around the brow area (pigment will not be put into anything raised).

  • Piercing in the brow area (Scars can cause the pigment to migrate).

  • Deep wrinkles in the brow area (The Hair Strokes will not lay properly in the creases, giving the brow an uneven look).

  • Hair transplant for your eyebrows (Pigment will not take in the scar tissue where the plugs were placed).

  • Rosacea (severe reddening of the face).

  • Fitzpatrick Skin types 1 (red heads/white skin/light eyes). Due to hypersensitivity the skin does not take the pigment well.

  • On Accutane (acne medicine) within the last year.

  • Extremely Thin skin (Transparent or Translucent or very vascular).

  • Women in Menopause (Considered). If you have hot flashes during the procedure, the pigment will not retain and we will have to interrupt the procedure. (You will be required to sign and addendum prior to procedure).

  •  Severely oily skin (The hair strokes will appear more blended, solid or may not retain well).

  • Large pores on your forehead & in the brow area (Pigment may blur/blend in large pores looking powdered).

  • Thyroid condition and taking medication for this condition – check with Doctor for permission (Hypo/Hyper Thyroidism, Graves Disease, and Hashimotos).

  • Individuals taking any of the following medications may cause you to bleed and the pigment MAY NOT retain: (please check with Doctor)

Triflusal (Disgren)Clopidogrel (Plavix),Prasugrel (Effient)

Ticagrelor (Brilinta)Ticlopidine (Ticlid)Cilostazol (Pletal) Vorapaxar (Zontivity)Dipyridamole (Persantine)Coumadin,

Pradaxia (dibigatran)Xarelto (rivaraxaban)Eliquis (apixaban) Savaysa (edoxaban).

  • Other Auto Immune Disorders of any kind (MS, RA, Lupus etc.). Due to the medicines to treat these diseases, pigment may not retain as well or as long).

Can I have this treatment if I am receiving Chemotherapy?

  • No, unfortunately during Chemotherapy you are at higher risk of infection.

  • After Chemotherapy is complete and you have a doctor’s blessing with a note…Microblading may be performed.

Can I have this treatment if I am pregnant?

  • Although there is no research to suggest this procedure would be detrimental, unfortunately you cannot have this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What to do before my appointment?

  • Double check to see that you are eligible for Microblading (list/conditions).

  • It is recommended that you avoid blood thinners, fish oil, aspirin, alcohol or using retinol creams prior to appointment. These can increase bleeding and pigment will not retain well or long.

  • In addition please see: “preparing for appointment” info.

What should I expect?

Approximate Healing Schedule for Permanent Cosmetics

Day 1-2

  • What you see is about 20-40% darker, bolder and more solid than what your healed result will present. The skin is red under the pigment because pigment has been deposited into the layer of skin containing dead skin cells; this gives the appearance of darker color.

  • There may be minimal swelling but because the eyebrow area does not retain much fluid, swelling typically will be limited.

  • You also may notice some yellowing; this will diminish in a few hours after your procedure.

  • You may notice some redness and tenderness in brow area.

  • There may be some slight oozing.

Day 3

  • Your eyebrows may begin to itch and the pigment may appear somewhat raised.

  • You may start to notice patches where the color is gone.

  • You may notice some flaking and/or scabbing… Don’t scratch them!

*Note:

The top layers of skin will begin to shed on about day 3-5, and you will see a

loss of color. This is normal, and the pigment that was deposited

superficially will come off with the skin it is embedded within. DO NOT HELP

IT! Let it peel on its own. To pull the skin off, you will remove ‘plugs’ of

dermal pigments as it has not detached itself completely at this point.

Days 4-6

  • The skin is now in the process of rapid exfoliation. Therefore if left alone, your skin will shed evenly.

  • The color under the exfoliating skin will continue to appear light until the epidermis takes on its more transparent characteristics.

Day 6-14

  • Your brows are still healing.

Weeks 4-6

  • Critique time. Given that you have had a full cycle of cellular regeneration during which the tattoo has become part of the dermis, it’s time to evaluate your brows.

  • This is the time when you will want to come in for your “touch up” visit. This appointment is part of the two step process in Microblading. Do Not expect your brows to be perfect after just one session.  This is why touching up is crucial!

*Note:

It is important to realize that the outcome of semi-permanent cosmetic procedures is dictated by its canvas.

  • The better condition your skin is in, the better the final result will be.

  • Dry, sun-damaged skin makes it more difficult to achieve a beautiful even result.

  • In addition, mature clients may need an additional one to two weeks healing for the final results to appear.

  • The better you take care of your skin and protect it from UV rays, the better the outcome and lifespan of the permanent cosmetic procedures!
